The Alley is a fairly new bubble tea place in downtown Toronto which also has established locations all over the GTA including Scarborough, Markham and Aurora. The interior decorations are inspired by the natural world – there are deer paintings, a tree in the middle of the store, plants, and wood furniture all around. You should come here to get a dose of nature while also enjoying a fresh bubble tea!
In the spirit of Halloween, the Alley introduced a 2018 limited edition “Retro Antler DNA” drink that looks like an IV blood bag! It is super creepy, and only for people who don’t flinch at the sight of blood. I was too chicken too try it, but it could be your Halloween trick AND treat at the same time if you go tonight to get it (while supplies last). The drink goes for $5.25+tax.
I got a Royal #9 Fresh Milk Tea with grass jelly on the left which is one of the most popular drinks on the Milk Tea Series. Any drink you get from the milk tea category are traditional bubble tea flavours that can be combined with tapioca, grass jelly, rainbow jelly, pineapple jelly, coffee jelly, aloe, pudding, purple rice, and/or milk pudding. The drinks at this store can be very colourful and creative. For ex., the Aurora Series has drinks that are incredibly Instagrammable. You would want to order the Morning Dawn or Northern Lights if you want layers of aurora borealis inspired flavours/colours inside.
I would also recommend trying a drink from their Finest Collection (white peach oolong, uji matcha latte, hojicha latte, and hojicha soy milk) or Winter Series (purple rice cocoa, brown sugar ginger roasted milk tea, brown sugar ginger tea and brown sugar ginger fresh milk tea) because the flavours are so rich and rare to get at other places. The tapioca is made in house in a labour of love and is called “deerioca” as a play on “tapioca” to fit with the deer theme. The pearl-shaped tapioca is soft, chewy and extremely fresh!
